LIVING THE

grazing LIFE

BETTER BEEF STARTS HERE

Don't worry, be happy!

It's simple. Cattle that live happy, stress free lives taste better. By remaining intimately involved with every step of our animals' lives, from birth to harvest, we minimize stress and ensure the very best quality of life. Here are some ways we do this:
Picture
  1. Our cows give birth in sync with nature, calving when the grass is at its peak nutrition. This way, the cows recover condition faster and pass on this nutrition to their calves.
  2. We don't artificially wean our calves. The cows do this naturally on their own before giving birth to their next calf, and keeping mom and baby together lowers stress for each. More importantly it allows the cow to teach her calf vital information it needs to survive and thrive, such as how to forage in winter, what forage is best at certain times of the year, how to respect and navigate fences, and how and when to find shelter.
  3. Moving cattle is a slow, quiet exercise for us. We practice natural stockmanship to influence animals using psychological pressure, never yelling, waving, chasing, podding or hitting. Or at least, that's the goal.

Good stuff in, good stuff out

Our cattle are pasture raised in a managed intensive rotational grazing system and graze up to 12 months out of the year.

We NEVER feed or supplement grain and never feed GMOs of any kind. We do not give our cattle vaccines, wormers, hormones, or antibiotics. Instead of managing for sickness, we manage our herd for optimal health, and it shows. We almost never have sickness or untimely death of one of our animals. Of course, on the rare occasion that one of our animals requires treatment of antibiotic or other medicine, we simply re-market that animal outside of our all-natural beef program.

Holistic approach

Successful management means you are improving every year. Not only do we focus on improving our livestock with every generation, we meticulously manage the land to ensure it's improving every year as well. We always strive to balance the nutritional needs of the animals with the land's need for rest and regeneration.

We work to improve the soil fertility by seeding our pastures with a diverse, no-till cover crop of grasses, legumes and brassicas that thrive in both warm and cold seasons. Then, instead of turning the resulting crop into hay, we rotate the cattle through the standing forage or cut and bale graze on the land. This system mirrors nature by allowing the animals to return fertility to the soil, rather than exporting the nutrients off the property.
